INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

International applicants are required to submit original language transcripts and diplomas along with an English translation.

TESTS

All applicants must submit GRE scores directly from ETS to Graduate Admissions with a copy to the department of Statistics. Make sure that you indicate our institution code (5812) and department code (0704) when you take the GRE. The TOEFL exam is required of applicants who have not spent at least one year in an institution where English is the native language of that country. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), 80 (internet). All applicants whose native language is not English and who are not US citizens or permanent residents will be required to pass an English test upon arrival at the University. Based on this exam, you may be required to take English language courses.

ACCEPTANCE

Students are accepted by the Graduate Selections Committee and will be notified by e-mail. Decisions are made as rapidly as possible. However, the review process can take up to 8-10 weeks. Heavy weight is placed on the strength of the recommendations GRE scores and the applicants mathematical/quantitative background. All accepted students who continue in good standing receive funding for at least five years. Fellowships are awarded based on the strength of the application.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Letters of recommendation should be submitted through the online application system. However, if you encounter problems, you may submit a hard copy of your letters directly to the Department of Statistics using the address listed above. If you use the online system, there is no need to submit the letters by hard copy to the department or university.
